KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has called on all stakeholders to ensure that the March 5 House of Representatives election is conducted in a human rights-friendly manner.
Issuing a statement, the constitutional body urged urged candidates, parties, media, and the public to avoid hate speech, refrain from misusing social media, respect voter privacy, stop spreading misleading information, prevent violent activities, and fully comply with the election code of conduct to promote a fair and rights-respecting electoral process.

NHRC spokesperson and joint secretary Dr. Tikaram Pokharel said the commission met with heads and representatives of various monitoring organisations to discuss ways to strengthen election observation and oversight.
The human right watch dog noted that monitoring has revealed candidates using abusive and hateful language against rivals, producing materials that undermine others’ dignity, and broadcasting questions about voter preferences via digital platforms—violating the secrecy and privacy of voting.
It also highlighted prior breaches of the election code, including misleading news reports predicting winners, ineffective voter education, and incidents of office vandalism among certain political parties.
